Point-by-point rebuttal posting spree !
" Jalipo, an Internet TV network offering stations such as the BBC and the beheading-friendly Al Jazeera, has begun offering the first news broadcast covering only the single MMORPG world of EVE Online. With what appears to be a production budget less than "Saul of the Mole Men," the show promises to "focus on player-led news and events, as well as providing access to behind-the-scenes information on the game." The network gets its money directly from viewers as opposed to advertisers, so there's no commercials but you will need a credit card. "
Basically, just a bash on the distributors of EVE-TV. While we do have reasons enough to critique EVE-TV's new distribution model, that paragraph there shows beforehand what the writer's position towards the distributer is, and hence, his bias.
" And just to give you an idea of how deep the game can go, one of the biggest scandals in the world of EVE involved a player walking away with billions of Interstellar Kredits (EVE's in-game currency). Known as the "EVE Interstellar Bank Scam," a single player scammed others into investing in ISK until he had over 700 billion ISK. Sounds kinda ******** to anyone not involved in EVE, but it was actually a major event in the course of the game. "
Basically, it's some guy who didn't even BOTHER playing EVE-Online, or if he played it, sounds like he didn't get past his free trial. Also, he appears to get his "sources" from other major gaming sites, not from first-hand experience.
" But the most interesting thing about the show has to be that, according to mmogchart.com, EVE Online is actually one of the least popular MMORPGs around with CCP, EVE's developer/publisher, estimating over 170,000 active members. While that number appears to be growing steadily, compare it to the massively multiplayer monolith that is World of Warcraft. With a community of about 8 million players, it makes one wonder, just how far off is a 24-hour World of Warcraft news channel? ("Next up: Orcs destroy a village of warlocks; we speak with one elf who managed to escape.") "
The next point showing complete ignorance of what makes EVE, well... EVE. He seems to fail to grasp the huge impact a "no shards" world has, like his final statement is obviously showing.
No, really, this article is so... not even in the same region as "newsworthy", and should be just thrown in the recycle bin.
